Winter can be a difficult time of year to walk outside. Icy surfaces and snow pose a hazard and result in a fall, leading to pain and injury. There are some steps you can take to make it safer when walking outside: 1) when walking extend your arms out to your side for balance, keep your knees loose and turn your feet out slightly 2) Take short steps or shuffle, bend slightly and walk flat footed 3) Choose proper footwear with low wide heels, avoid high heels 4) minimize what you're carrying. Carrying heavy loads can throw you off balance.
