While certain studies suggested that static stretching prior to exercise or athletic activities could potentially increase the risk of muscle injury, an new comprehensive review indicates that pre-workout stretching (while not necessarily helpful in running or cycling) is still a good idea for activities that involve leaping, sprinting and forceful muscle movements.
