Milton chiropractor discusses: reducing back pain with a newborn

8/18/2017

Here are some tips that can help you avoid some common aches and pains that can come along with the repetitive lifting and carrying of infants.

  • Avoid leaning forward to reach your newborn’s mouth. Instead sit in a chair with something to support your back, and position your baby closer to you using a nursing pillow for support.
  • When lifting keep your back neutral, and bring your baby as close to your chest as possible, then lift using both arms.
  • Lower your baby into the crib by bending at the knees, keeping a neutral back.
  • Avoid carrying your child on one hip as this will create postural imbalances that can lead to low back pain. Position your child directly against your chest when holding them.
