According to a new study, The King-Devick test is so simple and inexpensive that any league could afford to provide it as a way to help evaluate and safeguard players when a concussion is suspected. Current sideline protocols test cognition and balance but do not include assessments of visual performance. Since sports related concussion commonly affects the visual pathways, the study wanted to investigate how adding a vision based test could help identify concussed athletes. The study found that this test had great accuracy and low risk of false positives.
